Looking for Mother Goose......

Posted by Brenda on August 10, 2001 at 10:01:04:

Hello. i just thought to post here because i am not having any luck finding an old book of fairy tales. i don't know who it's by or anything of the publishing stuff. but i do know the cover. It's grey or blue grey, hardcover, about folder size (roughly 8 and 1/2"width x 12"height) It has a thin, but not so old mother goose flying on a white gander in the sky. and there are four children, two girls and two boys, waving to her with hankerchiefs. Their clothes are raggy, as if they are poor. The back cover has a little boy on his kness feeding bits of bread to white bird. he has on a white shirt, with one torn up sleeve, the other is puffy. The illustrations are very intericate.i'd say maybe victoriian-like. it was why i loved it so much but due to a stupid act. i accidently must have thrown it away cause i couldn't find it when i looked for it (that was 8 yrs ago) :(

Some of the stories in it were The Three Bears. I remember a her jumping out the window when they found her in the baby bear's bed. he looked out the window sad because he wanted a playmate.

There was Tom Thumb
Puss in Boots

The Sandman, i think it was the longest story in it because it covered 7 days. the boy would go to sleep and have adventurous dreams, there was also an umbrella, i think the sandman put them over children's heads.

Thumblina
Sleeping Beauty, i remember distinctly about the witch who came to cast the spell that she'd prick her finger and die. I always hid from her because she was so scary. she covered the whole right side of the page (the left had other guests, the baby in the bassinate, ect...) she also had a little gobin-like helper that held onto her dress that was all black.

The White Cat, a king had his three sons go out and get three special things to decide who got the kingdom when he died. i remember distinctly that the youngest son got lost in the rain and came to a castle and was walking down the hallway, real hands held torches along the wall.

i wish i could describe the illustrations better. they were so intricate and very realistic, not cartoony or claylike at all. their clothes was similar to the three musketeers? it reminds me of them. if ANYONE can help me. i'd really appreciate it. it was my favorite book in the whole world. there has got to be at least one other copy out there somewhere. any info is eagerly sought and greatly apprecated. Thanks~

Brenda
