Ring around the rosie,
Pocket full of poseys,
ashes, ashes
we all fall down.

This rhyme was started during or after the plague as a description of what it was like. A rosie is the wound that appears on the body after the plague has been contracted, a black or dark red ring appears around the wound, I beleive it was a blood ring, unsure on that fact. People thought then that the plague was picked up by breathing in the same air as a stricken person so they carried nosegays of flowers (poseys) that they could put to their noses and sniff while walking past an infected area. Ashes were of course what the bodies were reduced to once they were dead and falling down is an analogy to death. I know this response is a few years late but thought someone might find it interesting or useful.
